A Story Of A Great Conquistador

Hernan Cortes was a famous Spanish conquistador, who qonquered the Aztec empire. Hernan was born on 1485 in the city of Medellin, Spain.

Born a great fighter seing that cortes's father was a captain in the spanish army.

He studied law but left university to make his fortune in America. In 1504 he sailed for Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), moving to Cuba in 1511 where he assisted Diego Velázquez in his conquest of the island and made his reputation for courage and daring.

 

Born around 1485, Hernán Cortés was a Spanish conquistador who defeated the Aztec empire and claimed Mexico for Spain. He first set sail to the New World at the age of 19. Cortés later joined an expedition to Cuba. In 1518, he set off to explore Mexico. There he strategically aligned some native peoples against others to overthrow them. King Charles 1 appointed him governor of New Spain in 1522. Cortés died in Spain in 1547.

Reason For The Journy

Cortes's parents wanted him to become a lawyer and sent him to school at 14 but he wasn't interested. he heard about Christopher Columbus' discoveries in the new world and wanted to travel and see new lands. He also wanted to make his fortune and fame.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Conquest Of Mexico

In 1518, Cortes was made in charge of an expedition to Mexico. This was somthing that he'd wanted to do for many years. At the very last minute they were to set sail, Governer Velaquez became worried that Cortes would become to powerful and he orded Cortes not to set sail. Cortes disobeyed this order and set sail to mexico anyway.
